Spinal Pain: When to See a Neurologist

Back pain is one of the most common health complaints in the modern world. While some cases resolve on their own, others may indicate a serious neurological problem.
Why is it important to consult a neurologist in time?
Because not all pain is harmless. It can signal a pinched nerve, disc herniation, or spinal cord involvement. Ignoring symptoms may lead to irreversible damage.
📌 When it’s OK to wait
If your back or neck pain:
🔹 appeared after lifting something heavy or physical strain,
🔹 is mild and does not interfere with daily life,
🔹 improves with rest or heat —
it may be simple muscle tension. Still, if the pain lasts more than 7–10 days, a consultation is recommended.
⚠️ When to seek immediate help
Please see a neurologist promptly if you experience:
✅ Persistent or worsening pain even at rest
✅ Numbness or weakness in an arm or leg
✅ Radiating pain along a limb
✅ Difficulty walking, sitting, or standing
✅ Loss of bladder or bowel control
✅ Pain following spinal trauma
✅ Fever or chills accompanying the pain
These may indicate disc herniation, nerve compression, or spinal cord involvement.
